A talk Christine Roberts.
Christmas came early to the members of Burleydam W I this year, in the shape of 3 artistic flower arrangements. They were designed by Christine Roberts who had only stepped off a plane from Indonesia the day before and admitted that she was feeling a bit jet-lagged!
The first design was a low round arrangement built up with layered greenery and high lighted with white roses. Then Christine showed us how to make a hand-held bunch of flowers that would be sold at the florists in a box. She said it was not an easy thing to get right, and that her floristry teacher would make his pupils dismantle their bunches, time and time again, until he thought they had got it right. The next arrangement was long and low, suitable for a dinner table with grey foliage and red roses. Christine very kindly said that we could raffle her flowers, so 3 people were the lucky recipients of her talent.
The demonstration was followed by a party buffet that was provided by the committee. Guests were seated at small tables with cheerful red checked cloths and Christmas arrangements made by the President, Rosemary. While this was happening, members were asked to suggest appropriate competitions to go with next years speakers talks, which caused some hilarity.
A beautifully iced cake made by the president was presented to 2 members who were celebrating special birthdays, and this was cut and shared with the guests. Margaret was also given a beautiful arrangement of red Carnations from the W I.
The competition for a Christmas bauble was won caroline, 2nd was Angela, 3rd Margaret.
Members had brought prizes for the bran tub and came up in turn to see what they had won!
The president and committee were thanked for arranging a very happy evening.
